Little Portraits

I am back from my travels and have added these little portraits into my Etsy shop:

"Nancy" Acrylic on 6 x 6 inch wood panel.

"Annabel" Acrylic on 8 x 10 inch wood panel.

"Allen" Acrylic on 6 x 8 inch wood panel.

"Eileen" Acrylic on 6 x 8 inch wood panel.

"Edgar" Acrylic on 5 x 7 inch wood panel.

"Olivia" Acrylic on 5 x 7 inch wood panel.

"Martin" Acrylic on 5 x 7 inch wood panel.

"Vincent" Acrylic on 6 x 8 inch wood panel.

The panels these little portraits are painted on are a little different than my more recent portraits as I painted them on thinner panels.  These measure roughly 7/8 inches deep (rather than 1 1/2 inches).  Still left in their natural birch and protected with coats of polyurethane.

I am taking a break from my "regular" posts this month to spend some time with my daughter before school starts up again.  I will still be posting (hopefully) weekly as I will be working on various projects during August.

Studio Sunday and a Short Break

A few random shots around my studio at Mission Mill.  First, some newly dried lavender to enjoy while I work:

The dollhouse is coming along very slowly (it takes a lot longer than I imagined to paint each of those rooms):

Next up, a sneak peak at some new little portraits.  I will share some more about them soon.

I don't know who brought this vintage box of art materials I found in one of the common areas of the studios...

...but I was very glad to see that they were "Free of Poison"...

Tomorrow I leave for California and will be gone for a week, so I expect a short break in posts.  I might post on my Instagram (here) from time to time while I'm gone.  Also, I have set up a new Flickr account.  Not a lot on there yet, but you can follow it here.  Have a good week!

Open Studios

Join us for Art After Dark tomorrow night (Thursday, July 14) from 5 to 7 p.m.  Many of the artist studios will be open, including mine, and there will be a guest featured artist in the studio classroom: Cynthia Herron, who has set up a stunning collection of abstract iris paintings in oil.  In addition, she will be reading from her new book.  Downstairs there is a lovely new exhibit in the Compass Gallery and paintings by Julie Jeanseau will be on view in the Abbey Gallery.

Studio Sunday

I have been working on more linen pieces (layered linen with paint and pencil) that I am attaching to canvas.   I have been working through several of these as you can see above and below.

Sketchbook Saturday

This week I've been thinking about Renaissance paintings, in particular the quiet poses of the women.   I enjoy their serene, pensive, thoughtful faces.  A few have made their way into my sketches and possibly will later come up in other places.  On top, more playing with raw linen with acrylic paint and pencil.  The lower pages are just with pen, something I rarely do as I often prefer to be able to erase things.  However, good to push your boundaries sometimes.

Studio Sunday

Well, it isn't really a traditional "Studio Sunday" post.  Instead, I am sharing some photos I took of Mt. Jefferson while spending last weekend at Detroit Lake.  These are all from the same night and in the order I took them as the night progressed.

For everyone celebrating Independence Day, and for everyone who isn't, have a happy and safe 4th!

Sketchbook Saturday

I can't believe it is time for Sketchbook Saturday post already, this summer seems to be flying by.
