Sketchbook Saturday

Greetings, I hope this Saturday is finding you well.  I am thinking about some still life paintings soon and so that is where my sketchbook keeps going.

New Work

Lately, I've been trying a new way of working inspired by the pieces on paper from my April show.  I really enjoyed the quickness and simplicity of making those pieces.  Here's an example:

"Cup with Frond"

So I've started making new pieces using the same quickness and simplicity, like this one:

"Float" Acrylic on 9 x 12 inch canvas

This one happens to be acrylic on canvas, but I've also been working in pencil and watercolor on paper and there are pieces hand-stitched in linen, something I haven't done for a little while.  While I like working on my more detailed pieces (and will still continue to work on those as well), these allow me to move more quickly with my ideas and that allows me the time to take them across many mediums.  I will share more of all of these in the next week and am hoping to have a shop update next Wednesday.  Another plus of the simpler, faster pieces is that I will be able to have them at lower prices than my detailed work, since they take less time, and I am very happy about that.

Studio Sunday

I am trying to get in the habit of taking photographs in the studios each week so that I have lots of photos to pull from for Sundays, though sometimes things don't change so quickly as to make new and interesting things to share.  I probably won't always explain in these posts what is in the photos, as I rather like the idea of simply peeking into a space, so feel free to ask if you have questions about anything you see.

Sketchbook Saturday

Greetings!  Cups and vases for this Sketchbook Saturday.  The top is collaged papers with acrylic and the bottom is acrylic.   Sometimes my sketches are more detailed, and other times they are very quick and of the moment.

Shop Update

I just finished adding these paintings to my shop plus a few more.  All from my April show at Compass Gallery.  I will have another shop update soon with some brand new pieces.  I plan to show some of those to you soon.  In the meantime, I hope you will take a look at these.

Last weekend my daughter requested help in building a teepee in the back yard.  I haven't had the best success with teepee building in the past, so I helped her build what I would call more of a "round house" using the tree as additional support.  The house is not finished, it was raining rather a lot all weekend, but the base of the structure is there and is awaiting vegetation for the walls and final touches inside (though she did decorate with some flowers already).  I was pretty pleased with how it turned out and that it hasn't fallen down yet.  I am enjoying the affect of the interwoven branches forming a bit of a dome over top.

And then I just had to share this.  This is a mystery rose growing in my garden.  The blossoms start pink but turn violet as they age, and then there is that hot pink thing going on in the middle of some of them.  It is a trailing rose and I think just blooms once a season, please share if you know the name.

Studio Sunday

Just a short studio post this week.  I took this photo at Open Studios last Thursday and you can see, and might have noticed in a previous post, I have a dollhouse in the studio.  It was my daughter's and now it is taking on a new life in my studio.  It is currently undergoing some work.  I am sure it will make several appearances on the blog over time.

Also at the studio: baby ducks in the Mill stream.

Sketchbook Saturday

It is a rainy Saturday here, a much needed rain.  A few pages from my sketchbook to share with you today.  I am off to buy some art supplies next and then settle down to some painting.

Best wishes to you all on this Thursday.  I have just added a bunch of pieces from my April show into my shop, you can click here to see them if you like.  I have a few more to add later that need additional photos and I will let you know when those are in as well.

I also wanted to share that tonight is Art After Dark at Willamette Heritage Center where I have my studio.  The address is 1313 Mill St in Salem, Oregon.  See the card below for more information.  Hope you can join us!

For my Monday inspiration post, a few photos from around my garden.  We are seeing an early bloom this year, particularly in the roses, no doubt from the mid to high 80's temperatures we've been experiencing lately in the Willamette Valley in Oregon.

Studio Sunday

Hope you are having a lovely Sunday and a Happy Mother's Day.  For this Studio Sunday, some photos from around my studio and surrounding areas of the studios at Willamette Heritage Center that I took a few days ago.  My show is done at Compass Gallery so some of the work has moved up to the studios, as you will see.  I will begin updating my shop with a selection later in the week.
